I must have been a good boy last year. I got two Joan books for Xmas!!
Both are source material for one of her missing silent films. The Taxi Dancer. And, The Duke Steps Out. Can't wait to read them. Now, I just need a good long vacation.

Read this on an airplane flight. It's a bit of a tough read, since it's written as a play. But, it's a funny story about shenanigans at the French court. Just about every permutation of lead character is having an affair with each other. I could easily see Ernst Lubitsch making a great movie out of this!

From the Exhibitor's Trade Review (Aug - Nov 1925). Review of Old Clothes. Joan's film with Jackie Coogan, who went on to play Uncle Fester on the original Addams Family TV show. Film review next to it, The Eagle, with Rudy Valentino is one you may have seen clips of, but maybe didn't realize it. There are clips of both Rudy and his costar, the equally lovely Vilma Banky, from The Eagle in the original video for Under Pressure by Queen.

This URL notes a screening of The Taxi Dancer and The Understanding Heart in 1994. What lucky devils! I wonder what kind of shape the films were in. ...The Silent Movie Theater in their month long MGM retrospective in June of 1994 (22 films, all double bills in 35mm with live accompaniment.) They screened: The Understanding Heart 1926 with Joan Crawford; Lon Chaney in the 1926 Tod Browning production Road to Mandalay; A double bill of The Taxi Dancer 1926 with Joan Crawford and The Fair Coed 1927 with Marion Davies... nitrateville.com/viewtopic.php?t=32599
