"Cranberry" figures prominently, as you might expect, in this nicely done bio of her best bud, Billie Haines.

I read the book about him “Wisecracker.” It was good. I should have kept it, but I loaned it out and a person I worked with then he moved away and so did the book. Billy and Joan really were best buds from the beginning of her Hollywood career to the end. He was very talented, smart and handsome. The best decorator in Hollywood. Thanks to Joan for having him decorate her home and use it as a model to decorate Hollywood.

TCM has recently shown Speedway, 1929.
It was Haines' last silent and sounds like many of his movies. He's a flawed sports hero who needs the love of a woman to set him straight.
In this case, it's Anita Page. JC was too big a star by this time to play second fiddle to Billie? I think before Grand Hotel, 1932, studios didn't like having more than one major star in a film.

Tom; Thanks for the article on Ryan Murphy’s take on Joan and Jimmy. He was a great friend and loved Joan til then end. I’m glad that he stuck up for his relationship and was able to make a new life away from Hollywood. Joan helped him by having her own home as a display of his talents as an interior designer that lead to everyone else wanting him to do the same thing with their homes. I’m glad that it worked out well for him.

Someone scanned it, and it is now a book that can be "borrowed", digitally speaking. I did so about 2 weeks ago, and it is an excellent autobiography! T
