If I've said this once, I have said it a thousand times....JC looks like a million bucks here. I'm with Preysing (Wallace Beery), I would be checking out her legs and offering her lots of marks to come to England w/ me!! Grand Hotel is on the TCM app this month, and listed as one of their Essentials. It does my heart good to see all the discussion of JC in the TCM notes. At the time, she was the junior member of this ensemble. Now, 90 years later, she's the most transcendent star in this all-star cast! Maybe Garbo is up there in the Hollywood pantheon with Joan, but I always thought GG is more famous these days for her anti-social schtick than her body of work. I actually find Garbo somewhat tiring in this film.If I'm Baron von Gaigern (J Barrymore), I'm keeping my focus squarely on Flaemmchen!

Joan's gams, which got Herr Preysing in a lather. It'll give the jerk something to think about while he's in prison for murdering the Baron.

I also watched GRAND HOTEL on TCM. I love that movie. While making this movie, Joan would also say Hello or Good Morning to Garbo. Joan would have to pass by Garbo’s dressing room to get to hers. Garbo never replied back to Joan. Then one morning Joan didn’t greet her and Garbo remarked on it. I also heard that Joan said if she were ever to be with another woman, it would be Garbo. Some trivia I found. The biggest Hollywood hit of 1932. Greta Garbo and Joan Crawford appear in no scenes together. Garbo does not interact with any of the film's stars apart from John Barrymore. The quote "I want to be alone" spoken by Greta Garbo in this movie was listed at #30 in AFI List of Top 100 Quotes From U.S. Films. The Hollywood premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theater was one of the film industry's most spectacular promotional events to date. A reproduction of the film's iconic circular reception desk was placed outside the venue, and many of the movie stars who attended the showing were asked to sign the ledger at the desk as if they were hotel guests. Greta Garbo lived up to her reclusive reputation by refusing to attend the spectacular Hollywood premiere of the film at Grauman's Chinese Theater. Instead, Garbo spent the evening at home with close friends. In later years Joan Crawford described the movie as "a grand film, a grand experience in my life. I'm so proud. I was thrilled when I heard I was going to be doing it. I only wanted to be worthy." At one point, Oscar winner Wallace Beery stormed out of rehearsals, saying he would only come back "when Joan Crawford learns to act". Irving Thalberg originally wanted his wife Norma Shearer to play the role of Flaemmchen. However, she received a lot of fan mail in which fans discouraged her from the role, after which she refused the part. Clark Gable was originally announced as playing Preysing (the Wallace Beery role), but he was thought to look too young. I found a lot more trivia that you can check out. I just wanted to give you some of what I was able to find interesting that I didn’t know about.

JC and Doug Jr @ 7:10 JC with a shout out to Renée Adoree, who by this time is sick with the illness that took her life much too soon (TB). Interestingly, Norma Shearer is escorted by Clark Gable. Connie Bennett with Gloria Swanson's ex.
