Per the suggestion of our admin, I am adding Johnny Guitar to my movie queue. Joan in color. Should be fun! Is this her first color movie?

Johnny Guitar is Jack T Ripper from Dr Strangelove! 😃 And, there's Casey from The Grapes of Wrath! Shaping up to be good.

Mercedes McCambridge's character is annoying as heck. Can't blame JC for slapping the bejeezus out of her.

OK. I cannot tell a lie. It was nice to see Joan in color, but am not sure I would watch it again.
MM's character was annoying. Most the supporting characters - Hayden, Carradine, Bond, etc. - were good though given the material they had to work with. I just didn't get into the story, and only Joan's character seemed interesting.
I need to look about for more 1950's movies...T

Well, there were brief color sequences in 1939's "The Women" and "Ice Follies." And 1949's "It's a Great Feeling" (Joan cameo only) was color. 1953's "Torch Song" was Joan's first color movie.

The official story is: Vienna supports the railroad coming in because it will bring more business. The local ranchers know the railroad will tear up their land, so they're anti-railroad and, thus, anti-Vienna. Sub-story: Vienna's old love returns. Oh, and Emma's brother has been killed by members of what Emma considers to be Vienna's gang. So Emma's mad, and jealous because she's in love with a gang member, Dancin' Kid, who prefers Vienna. Phew! There's actually a lot of story going on! But, as I said, upon first viewings, I paid attention only to Joan/Vienna---hypnotically intense!

Mercedes McCambridge's character is annoying as heck. Can't blame JC for slapping the bejeezus out of her. I'm blanking out---DID Vienna actually slap Emma? I know there was the iconic staircase scene at the beginning: "I'm going to kill you." "I know. If I don't kill you first." But I don't remember any slap. Good shootout at the end, though! (In real life, Joan was mad that Mercedes seemed to have a better relationship with the guys on the set, so Joan famously threw Mercedes's costumes onto a local highway...)

No. I think I was projecting. I wanted Joan to slap her for me! 😃

One inversion tidbit from the TCM site is that Johnny Guitar is Joan's first Western since Montana Moon (1931). Wow. Imagine all the ups and downs in JC's career and life in the intervening quarter century!
Johnny Mack Brown was well into the Western phase of his movie career. Joanie shoulda hooked up her old MGM pal!
