This show has been an annual holiday event in Chicago for years. From "Hell in a Handbag" productions, starring (and with book and lyrics by) David Cerda. www.broadwayworld.com/chicago/article/RELEASEPHOTOS-Hell-In-A-Handbags-Holiday-Favorite-CHRISTMAS-DEAREST-Returns-Nov-27-Dec-31-2021-At-Ebenezer-Lutheran-Church-20010101Joan Crawford (David Cerda) returns in Handbag's very own version of A Christmas Carol. It's 1953 and Joan is desperate to reignite her career with the new film, Oh, Mary!, a big splashy musical adaption of the life of the Virgin Mary. Everything has to be perfect, but the stress of surviving in Hollywood has turned Joan into a tyrant! Even Carol Ann (Ed Jones), Joan's faithful personal assistant, is at her wits' end. What Joan needs is a miracle, and that's exactly what she gets when she's visited by three ghosts who try to show Joan the error of her ways and the true meaning of the holidays.

This would be an event that I would be interested to see and meet up with “Friends of Joan.”

This would be an event that I would be interested to see and meet up with “Friends of Joan.” Back in the "olden days," there were actually a few meet-ups among us Joan fans! But it's been a while. Here are some photos from when I got to meet other Joan fans (including David Cerda of "Hell in a Handbag") in San Francisco in 2006: www.joancrawfordbest.com/blyth06.htmThe occasion was Ann Blyth appearing in person for a "Mildred Pierce" showing at the Castro.

A Dec. 9 review of the show from Chicago's NewCityStage.com. If you’ve been needing a little Christmas, and you’ve gotten to the point where you need it this very minute, you’re in luck, because Hell In A Handbag just happens to have an entire creche of it somehow shoved into David Cerda’s clutch purse and they’re not afraid to whip it out....
