Joan-Photoplay-Sept28.pdf (959.2 KB) Interesting in that it's a history of Joan, but not long after the fact, but when she first hit stardom. From September 1928 issue of Photoplay. There's at least one more installment, which I'm trying to find. The entire issue is on archive.org.

Alas, the source I found online for part II is missing pages. Per Hollywood lore, two others in the chorus line behind Zasu Pitts along with Lucille LeSueur are Myra Williams (soon to be Myrna Loy) and Jane Alice Peters (soon to be Carole Lombard). Can you pick them out? I can't!

Why am I thinking that the caption about Joan inviting her family out to Hollywood so that they can enjoy her success is a bit of a fib?

Joan’s mother charged up Joan’s accounts for clothing and dining with other Hollywood mothers. Joan’s brother was a creep. Joan tried to help them both, but they took advantage of her and she finally cut them off. At least she cut her brother off. I know Joan never wanted them in her home or parties. They treated Joan like she owed them something because she was a success. Joan worked very hard. They wanted to loaf off her success; not work for their own.
