When Joan arrived in California, Crawford stayed at the Washington Hotel (now the West End Hotel), located at 3927 Van Buren Place, in Culver City. The modest hotel is only a few blocks from the former MGM lot. Crawford began to settle in Culver City, she moved out of the Washington Hotel and in to a three bedroom bungalow on Genessee Street. She would stay there a short while, until MGM loaned her $28,000 to purchase a house at 513 N. Roxbury Drive, in Beverly Hills. 1925 - The Herbert Howe House, 513 Roxbury Drive, Beverly Hills CA. Sold in 1927 to actress Joan Crawford who lived there for a year. Joan Crawford's home at 513 N. Roxbury Drive. The home on Roxbury Drive was a spacious five bedroom, five bath house, located just a few blocks from the commercial part of Beverly Hills. Built in 1925, the home was originally owned by Herbert Howe, writer for the fan magazine Photoplay, and also well known for being Ramon Navarro's lover. Crawford lived in this home during the years 1927 and 1928. According to the US Modernist website, the house was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Jr. I would love to see the house. I’ll take a photo of me in front of the house. You may not be able to see the house from the road, but you’ll see me peeking through the bushes. We’ll put this on our Admin Miss Stephanie’s bucket list when we, (the Joan Crawford fan club) takes over Hollywood. I can’t wait.

I wonder if William Haines had anything to do with picking out the home on 513 N. Roxbury. Did he know Ramon Navarro or his boyfriend; Maybe?
